Privacy policy – the OkPaw app
Last updated: 2026-10-17
This policy covers the OkPaw app. The okpaw.app website and its waitlist have their own policy. The short version: there is no account, your pet's journal stays on your phone, and what you send to get an answer is used for that answer and not kept by us.
Who is responsible
Dalsten Group, Sweden, is responsible for your personal data. Contact: [email protected].
No account
You use OkPaw without an account. The app does not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
What stays on your phone
Your pets (name, species, breed, birthday, sex, weight, photo, health notes), the journal, your saved checks with their answers, reminders and settings are stored only on your phone. We cannot see them.
If your phone's own backup is switched on (Google or Apple), that backup may include this data. It is then handled by Google or Apple under your account with them.
In the app you can delete a pet together with everything saved about it, and single journal entries. If you delete the app, the data on the phone is deleted with it.
What is sent when you ask for an answer
When you ask for an answer, the app sends the following to our server, over an encrypted connection, so that an answer can be written:
• what you wrote, and the photo if you added one;
• your answers to the follow-up questions;
• the pet's basics: dog or cat, breed, age in years, sex and whether neutered, weight and your health notes;
• the language the app is shown in and your phone's country setting, so the answer comes in your language and fits local risks.
The pet's name and its profile photo are not sent.
Please don't put information about people – names, addresses, your own health – in a description or a photo.
Our server
Our server runs in the EU (Google Cloud, Belgium). It does not store what you send and does not write it to its logs. It only records that a check happened, the urgency level, the country, whether a photo was included and how long it took.
To stop abuse, the server briefly uses your internet address (IP address) and a random number that the app creates when it is installed. The number is not linked to you, your pets or a purchase, and both are only kept in the server's memory for at most a day. Like all web services, the platform also keeps technical request logs – time and IP address, never the content – for 30 days.
OpenAI writes the answer
To write the answer, our server passes what you sent to OpenAI, which processes it on our behalf under a data processing agreement (OpenAI Ireland Ltd for customers in the EU/EEA). OpenAI does not use this content to train its models, and keeps it for up to 30 days only to detect abuse before deleting it.
The content may be processed in the United States. Such transfers are covered by the EU standard contractual clauses in that agreement.
Answers are made automatically
The answer is written automatically by an AI model, within fixed safety rules that we set. It is guidance for you as the owner – not a diagnosis and not a decision about you. Phone numbers shown in an answer come from our own checked list, not from the AI.
Purchases
If you buy OkPaw Plus, the payment is handled by Apple or Google. We use RevenueCat (USA) to know whether Plus is active on your phone. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app ID and the purchase details from the store – not your name or email address.
Notifications, clinics nearby, maps and phone calls
Reminders and re-check notifications are created on your phone; nothing is sent from a server.
To show veterinary clinics near you, the app downloads the clinic list for your country from okpaw.app. That request contains only the country code; like any website, the server also sees your internet address. If you allow it, the app uses your phone's location to sort the clinics by distance. Your location is used only on your phone: it is never sent to us or anyone else, and it is not stored. Instead of sharing your location you can type a town or postcode, which also stays on your phone.
Tapping Call, Directions, Website or the map search opens your phone app, maps app or browser, and a phone number opens your phone app. From there, that app's own privacy policy applies.
Our other apps
To show our other apps, the app fetches a list from our server; only the app name, platform and language are sent, and taps are counted anonymously.
What we don't do
We don't sell data, we don't show ads, and the app contains no advertising or tracking tools.
Why we may process this
To give you the answer you ask for (performance of our agreement with you), and because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the service safe from abuse.
Children
OkPaw is meant for people who look after a pet and are at least 16 years old.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority (in Sweden: IMY). Because we don't keep what you send and have no account for you, we normally hold nothing we can look up – but email [email protected] and we'll help you.
Changes
If we change how the app handles data, we update this page and the date at the top.
