How we write our pages

Where the facts come from

Every fact comes from a published veterinary or poison-centre source: the US FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine, national poison information centres, peer-reviewed open-access papers, Pet Poison Helpline, PDSA, International Cat Care, ESCCAP and WSAVA. We only use sources whose terms allow it, and we list them on every page.

How a page is made

We collect the facts first and keep a short verbatim quote for each one. A page is then written with the help of AI using only those facts. A second, independent check compares every claim with the sources; if anything is not supported, the page is corrected or not published at all.

Numbers are never guessed

Doses, weights and calculator results come directly from the collected data. Numbers that a source marks as uncertain are left out.

Urgency levels

Whether a page says "call a vet now" is decided by fixed safety rules, not by AI. When sources disagree we use the stricter one.

What we are not

OkPaw is not a vet and does not diagnose, prescribe or recommend medicines. When in doubt, our pages always tell you to contact a vet.
